In line with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to support women’s empowerment, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Beenish Fatima has officially launched the ‘Women on Wheels’ program at the Girls Guide House in Rawalpindi.
According to a police spokesperson, CTO Fatima invited women at the Girls Guide House to participate in scooter or motorcycle driving training through the initiative. Those interested can contact the traffic police to register for the training sessions, which will be conducted within the institute.
The inauguration of the program was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony, where Regional Girls Guide Commissioner Dr. Saira Mufti welcomed the CTO and the girl guides presented her with a bouquet as a gesture of appreciation. Approximately 25 girls from the institute are expected to benefit from this initiative in its initial phase.
CTO Beenish Fatima emphasized that the primary goal of the Women on Wheels program is to empower women by providing them with the skills to drive safely and independently. She highlighted the significance of girls becoming self-sufficient, noting that this would reduce the burden on their families and enable them to travel to school, college, university, or work without facing transportation issues. Additionally, participants will receive their driving licenses within a short timeframe.
The program also extends to women teachers from Rawalpindi and nearby areas interested in learning how to drive cars or motorcycles. They have been encouraged to reach out to the traffic police training institute for enrolment in the driving courses.
