Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has officially launched a barcode-based identification system for all registered water tankers to enhance transparency and eliminate illegal tanker operations across the city.
Under this new digital initiative, authorities have assigned a unique barcode to every authorized water tanker.
By scanning the code with a smartphone, citizens can instantly verify essential details, including the driver’s identity, the vehicle’s designated route, its fitness certificate, and the official water source.
Mayor Wahab urged residents to remain vigilant and scan the barcode before accepting any water delivery. He emphasized that this system empowers citizens to identify and report unregistered or suspicious tankers to the authorities immediately.
The primary goal of the barcode system is to dismantle the illegal water tanker mafia that has long plagued the city’s distribution network.
By providing a real-time verification tool, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) aims to strengthen regulatory oversight and ensure that only registered vehicles provide water to the public.
This technological intervention represents a significant step toward modernizing Karachi’s utility management and securing a more accountable and reliable water supply for all residents.
