In a significant move to address staffing challenges within the police force, the Punjab cabinet has approved a five-year extension in the age limit for candidates applying for the positions of Sub-Inspectors and Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASI).
Previously, applicants were required to be between the ages of 21 and 35; however, the new regulations now permit individuals up to 40 years old to apply through the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC).
This change comes at a crucial time, as Punjab is facing a substantial shortage of personnel, with 1,010 ASI positions currently vacant across the province, including in major cities like Lahore. By raising the age limit, officials hope to attract a broader pool of applicants, ultimately strengthening the police force and improving law enforcement capabilities.
