The Sahiwal District Council has declared 132 private housing societies illegal under various sections of the Punjab Private Housing Scheme Rules 2022 and the Punjab Land Use (Classification, Re-classification & Re-development) Rules 2020. According to sources from the planning office, these illegal housing societies are located in the tehsils of Sahiwal and Chichawatni.
The societies are spread across villages surrounding urban areas such as Harappa, Chichawatni, Kameer, Yousafwala, Noor Shah, Madhali Road, Arifwala Road, and Pakpattan Road.
Last week, owners of three private housing colonies reportedly assaulted building inspectors Shaikh Umer and Shahroz Gujar after the inspectors demolished sales offices at the illegal sites. The owners accused the inspectors of accepting bribes and neglecting to take action against illegal constructions, while the inspectors claimed the owners had failed to obtain the required NOCs and had not paid conversion fees amounting to billions of rupees.
The district council and municipal corporation teams, led by Planning Officer Javed Gondal and the Municipal Planning Officer of Sahiwal, demolished the buildings and sales offices of Al-Haram City, Model City, and Fasil Archer on Old Harappa Road. These illegal housing schemes are spread over 80 villages in the Sahiwal district.
