In a remarkable debut performance, Kamran Ghulam scored his maiden Test century for Pakistan in the second Test match against England in Multan.
Kamran Ghulam, who was brought in as a replacement for Babar Azam, made an immediate impact, showcasing his talent and justifying his selection in the Starting XI. He brought on his century in style with a boundary, becoming only the second Pakistani to score a century while batting at No. 4 on debut. The first Pakistani batter was Saleem Malik in 1982.
That’s not all, Kamran Ghulam is only the 6th batter in Test history to score a century at 4th on debut. The last to do so was Aminul Islam for Bangladesh back in 2000. The list also includes Nawab of Pataudi Sr., Gundappa Viswanath, and Frank Hayes. Overall, Kamran Ghulam is the 13th Pakistani to score a century on Test debut.
Ghulam came to the crease at a critical juncture, with Pakistan struggling at the loss of two early wickets—opener Abdullah Shafique and captain Shan Masood. Demonstrating composure and skill, he steadied the innings alongside Saim Ayub, forming a crucial 149-run partnership that helped stabilize Pakistan’s position on Day 1.
Saim Ayub contributed a solid 77 runs before being dismissed, and vice-captain Saud Shakeel also fell shortly after. Despite these setbacks, Kamran Ghulam has continued to anchor the innings, displaying resilience and determination. He is now focused on building another strong partnership with Mohammad Rizwan as Pakistan aims to post a competitive first innings total.
Currently, Pakistan stands at 218 for 4, with Kamran Ghulam’s century providing a much-needed boost to the team’s morale and prospects in the match.
