University of Gujrat Fined for Not Displaying Code of Conduct Against Harassment

The University of Gujrat has been fined Rs 100,000by Punjab’s Ombudsperson, Nabila Hakim Khan, for failing to establish a harassment committee and not displaying the harassment code of conduct as required by law.

This action falls under the Protection against Harassment of Women at Workplace Act and the Punjab Enforcement of Women’s Property Rights Act 2021.

The Ombudsperson stressed that all institutions—whether public, semi-government, or private—must comply with the law by forming an inquiry committee on harassment and visibly displaying the code of conduct in a language understood by their members.

The university has been given a seven-day deadline to pay the fine. Failure to comply within this period may result in contempt of court proceedings being initiated against the institution.
