Pakistan is facing a major challenge ahead of the crucial third Test against England, set to begin on October 24 in Rawalpindi, as left-arm pacer Mir Hamza is dealing with a right glute injury, putting his availability in doubt.
Hamza missed out on bowling during Pakistan’s most recent three-hour training session on Tuesday, focusing on rehabilitation exercises under the guidance of physiotherapist Cliffe Deacon. His workout involved glute-strengthening exercises, such as resistance band drills and bridges, as he worked towards regaining fitness. Hamza also skipped bowling in Monday’s practice session, raising further doubts about his participation.
Meanwhile, fast bowler Mohammad Ali, also in the squad, trained with full intensity in the nets and may be in line to replace leg-spinner Zahid Mehmood. Although Ali has experience at the Rawalpindi venue, his performances have been underwhelming, taking just six wickets in his three Tests at an average of 55.50. In his last appearance at Rawalpindi, he went wicketless, conceding 57 runs in 24 overs.
The three-match series is currently level, with England winning the first Test by an innings and 47 runs in Multan, and Pakistan bouncing back with a 152-run win in the second. The final Test in Rawalpindi promises to be an exciting decider.
