Jason Gillespie Admits to Role Change Under New PCB Regime

Pakistan Test team’s head coach Jason Gillespie has admitted a change in his status with the team after the appointment of a new PCB regime.

The Australian was quizzed about his role in the selection of the squad during a press conference ahead of the final test match between Pakistan and England and offered a forthcoming response to the query, referring to himself as a “matchday strategist.”

The 49-year-old alluded that he would like to have more of a say in the selection process but seemed content with the role change for the moment.

It was reported that the Test team’s captain Shan Masood and coach Jason Gillespie were no longer part of the selection process after PCB’s recent reshuffling which handed the power to Aaqib Javed, Azhar Ali, Aleem Dar, Asad Shafiq, and Hassan Cheema. The coach and the captain will now have to make do with the players who are sent their way.

It remains to be seen how this change will affect the relationship between PCB and Jason Gillespie who seemingly took on the role with added responsibilities.

Things have already been tense for the ambitious coach who took over the duties in April of 2024. The team lost a home series to Bangladesh under his tenure and was outclassed in the first test by England before registering their first win under his guidance in the second.
