Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Rashid Latif has provided insight into the ongoing discussions about the national team’s white-ball captaincy, with Mohammad Rizwan the leading candidate for the job.
In a recent social media post, Latif mentioned that the decision about the team’s leadership will be determined after an important meeting between Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and Mohammad Rizwan.
“The decision regarding the captaincy for ODIs and T20s will be made after a meeting between the PCB chairman [Mohsin Naqvi] and Mohammad Rizwan. The meeting was expected to take place, but the PCB chief was not in the country,” Latif stated in his social media post.
The uncertainty around Pakistan’s captaincy has been an issue of much debate ever since Babar Azam’s most recent resignation on October 2. With Babar stepping down during what was a tense period for Pakistan Cricket, players like Mohammad Rizwan and Mohammad Haris have been considered for the role, with Rizwan emerging as the leading candidate to captain the team in both formats, according to reliable sources.
Additionally, the announcement of squads for upcoming white-ball tours to Australia and Zimbabwe is expected in the coming days. Pakistan’s team is set to leave for Melbourne on October 29, with practice sessions at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) scheduled for November 1 and 2, ahead of the first ODI against Australia on November 4. An optional training session is also planned for November 3.
