Maria Sharapova Inducted into the Tennis Hall of Fame

The International Tennis Hall of Fame has announced Maria Sharapova and the American doubles team Bob and Mike Bryan to its Class of 2025.

Sharapova, a five-time Grand Slam winner and the Bryans will officially be inducted during a ceremony on August 23 in Newport, Rhode Island, honoring their extraordinary contributions to the sport.

“Incredibly grateful to receive this honor,” Sharapova, wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “A big thank you to The Hall of the Fame, and to all the voters. “Most importantly, this recognition is such a beautiful reminder of the deep appreciation I have for my fans. Each one of you made me reach for the stars and look at what we have achieved together.”

Sharapova quickly rose through the tennis ranks becoming the world number one ranking in 2005, the first Russian to do so. She is only one of 10 women to achieve a career Grand Slam (winning each grand slam at least once) and finished her glittering career with 36 trophies including a Silver medal at the Olympics.

Her rivalry with Serena Williams became one of the most talked-about in the sport garnering the global media’s attention. Maria Sharapova bid her career farewell in 2020 after returning in 2017 following a doping ban.

The Bryan brothers, meanwhile, are widely regarded as the most successful doubles team in tennis history with 16 Grand Slam titles. In Pakistan, they are remembered for beating Aisam Ul Haq Qureshi and Rohan Bopanna in the US Open final.

The duo also held the world’s top-ranked men’s doubles team for an unprecedented 438 weeks capturing a staggering 119 titles, including 16 Grand Slams, 39 ATP Masters 1000 tournaments, and four ATP Finals titles. They also clinched Olympic gold in 2012 and were integral to the U.S. Davis Cup victory in 2007.
