Mohammad Amir will not be part of Pakistan’s One-Day International (ODI) squad for the Australia series after reports of his return were refuted by credible sources.
Amir’s name took centre stage with the squad announcement imminent with several media outlets reporting that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had approached the 32-year-old to inquire about his availability for the upcoming tour. Those rumors can now be put to rest with confirmation that the pacer will not be part of Pakistan’s pace battery in the ODIs.
In his stead, Pakistan is likely to name Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf and Mohammad Hasnain in the squad.
Mohammad Amir has not played a fifty-over game for Pakistan since suiting up for the side against Sri Lanka in 2019, preferring to take part in T20 Cricket across the globe. But his return to the national team for the T20 World Cup this year opened the doors for his possible inclusion in the team for high-profile tours leading to PCB’s reported approach.
The left-hander has plenty of experience against the Aussies having racked up 58 wickets against them across all three formats. 26 of those have come to Australia.
There are still whispers that he will say yes to the T20Is though, raising hope that he will join the rest of the team following the conclusion of the ODI series.
Pakistan will play 3 ODIs in Australia beginning from November 4th with the T20Is scheduled to start from the 14th of November.
The squad announcement for the two series is expected soon.
