The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) has approved a significant investment of Rs. 43 billion to introduce eco-friendly buses across five major cities in Punjab.
This initiative greenlit during the PDWP’s 39th meeting led by Planning and Development Board Chairman Nabeel Awan, aims to enhance public transport options while addressing environmental concerns.
The approved project will introduce these eco-friendly buses in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Faisalabad, and Bahawalpur. The primary goals of the initiative include:
By focusing on sustainability, Punjab hopes to improve urban living conditions, make public transport more appealing, and support a shift toward global environmental standards. Officials believe the new buses will be a step forward in creating a cleaner, more efficient public transport system that enhances quality of life.
The meeting was attended by P&D Board Secretary Dr Asif Tufail, Transport Department Secretary Ahmed Javed Qazi, and Chief Economist Masood Anwar, alongside other senior board members and officials.
