Pakistan cricket team’s former coach Mickey Arthur has criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board’s treatment of Gary Kirsten, siding with his compatriot after his resignation.
Kirsten has decided to not continue in his role as Pakistan’s white-ball coach with reports suggesting that the South African was not happy with the diminution in his powers including his input in team selection.
“You can’t not have input from the coach in terms of selection, he looks the players in the eye every day and for his role to be taken seriously needs to communicate clearly on roles with the players and give feedback.” Tweeted Arthur. The former Pakistan coach was adamant about letting the coach make the critical decisions as they hold the most minute pieces of information and every detail.
Kirsten’s dismissal has not gone down well with the majority of the public with people out of PCB on social media for their treatment of the renowned coach.
Pakistan enjoyed one of its most fruitful periods under Arthur with the South African leading them to a Champions Trophy triumph and turning them into one of the best T20I teams in the world.
PCB had approached Gary Kirsten after being rejected by Mickey Arthur for the head coaching role with PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi seeing the two as identical candidates.
PCB has already named Jason Gillespie as interim coach as they search for Kirsten’s replacement.
