The administrations of Rawalpindi and Murree districts have rolled out a detailed protection plan for the 2024-25 snowfall season, set to take effect from November 1 through February 28.
This initiative, approved by the Rawalpindi Commissioner, aims to bolster safety following the tragic events of 2022, where severe snow led to the loss of 22 lives.
The safety plan includes coordinated efforts from the National Highway Authority, Forest Department, Civil Defence, and Traffic Police, all of whom will have personnel stationed in Murree throughout the season. An emergency fund of Rs59.3 million has been requested to support these seasonal measures.
To further aid in this initiative, 100 civil defense volunteers are being deployed with full safety kits, including life jackets, rain gear, and flashlights, enabling them to promptly assist tourists.
The administration hopes these reinforced precautions will help prevent emergencies, ensuring a safer experience for visitors during Murree’s snowfall season.
