Four Polish nationals, including a woman, were reportedly robbed in Karachi’s Clifton area, but have since left the country without filing a formal complaint. The incident became widely known after a video surfaced online, showing the assailant intercepting the foreigners, seizing cash and valuables, and even assaulting one individual for resisting.
The footage, recorded by a nearby witness, quickly prompted public backlash and led to heightened scrutiny of the police’s performance in ensuring safety within the upscale Clifton and DHA areas.
The police confirmed the video’s authenticity and launched an investigation. SSP South Sajid Saduzai stated that while the Polish citizens did not report the incident, police have begun examining CCTV footage to identify the suspect.
The vehicle used in the crime reportedly belongs to a private company, and the suspect was dressed in a security guard’s uniform, not a police uniform as some reports suggested.
In response, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah demanded a report from Karachi’s Police Chief, condemning the attack as harmful to Pakistan’s image amid efforts to promote tourism. Furthermore, Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar instructed officials to use all available resources, including CCTV evidence, to arrest those responsible and ensure justice.
