Rúben Amorim Completes Expected Move to Manchester United

Manchester United have finally announced Sporting CP head coach Rúben Amorim as the club’s new boss ending weeks of speculation. The 39-year-old will replace Erik Ten Hag in the role after the Dutchman’s exit from the club.

Ten Hag was finally put out of his misery with the club sitting in 14th in the league table.

Amorim arrives with an impressive resume from his third senior coaching role, having led Sporting to two Portuguese league titles since joining from Braga in 2020. Sporting had waited nearly two decades to reclaim league glory, but Amorim’s impact was immediate and transformative.

Known for favoring a dynamic back-three formation with attack-minded wing-backs, Amorim has created a side that combines defensive solidity with aggressive, pressing football.

His teams start to play from the back, utilize interchangeable positions, and even see center-backs involved in the buildup, making Sporting one of Portugal’s most adaptable and intense teams without the ball.

The former Portuguese international is considered a prodigy in footballing circles having trained under the ever-charming Jose Mourinho.

Liverpool, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and West Ham were all interested in Rúben Amorim but none of the clubs managed to get his signature allowing United to pounce.

United had been on the verge of parting ways with Ten Hag after an eighth-place league finish last season, but an FA Cup final win over Manchester City kept the Dutchman in the job.

The club engaged in talks with several top managers, including Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino, and Roberto De Zerbi, but eventually turned to Amorim after Tuchel withdrew from the running.

The club has announced that Ruud Van Nistelrooy will continue to lead the side until Rúben Amorim officially takes charge of the team.
