Meta’s chatting app WhatsApp has unveiled its latest upgrade: custom lists, an enhanced version of the chat filters introduced earlier this year.
This new feature enables users to categorize their chats into personalized groups, from family communications to work-related discussions and neighborhood connections.
Using chat filters is straightforward: users can create new lists by tapping the plus icon in the filter bar at the top of their Chats tab. List management is equally user-friendly, with editing options accessible through a long-press on any existing list.
The feature allows users to include individual conversations and group chats in their custom lists, similar to the existing favorites function. All created lists will be displayed within the filter bar for easy access.
While the global rollout has already begun, WhatsApp notes that complete worldwide availability will be achieved gradually over the next few weeks, as the feature makes its way to all users across the platform. Make sure to keep your app up to date through your respective app stores.
As always, WhatsApp is working on several upcoming features such as the ability to verify hyperlinks. This should help avoid malicious links forwarded by scammers or other bad actors.
WhatsApp will also add a shortcut for opening up the photo and video gallery through the chat bar, an automatic text formatting option, a new dialer for the iPad app, a notification for third-party chat requests, and more.
