Gautam Gambhir on Thin Ice Ahead of Australia Series

Gautam Gambhir’s tenure as head coach of the Indian national team could be coming to an early end with reports that the Board of Control for Cricket In India (BCCI) is not happy with his side’s recent performances.

Gambhir’s India has struggled in recent times with ODI losses to Sri Lanka and a home series hammering at the hands of New Zealand, putting his performance under a microscope. Given the fact that Gambhir has powers that his predecessors did not enjoy, BCCI may look for new options soon.

The 42-year-old reportedly finalizes the playing XI himself and has a say in pitch preparations ahead of the games. It is being reported that it was Gautam Gambhir who wanted spinning wickets in the last two Tests against New Zealand despite his team struggling against Mitchell Santner, Ajaz Patel, and a part-timer in Glenn Phillips.

With questions surrounding his leadership, Gambhir’s future now hinges on the performance of the Indian team in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, where they are set to compete in five Test matches. The Indian squad is also under duress to deliver results in Australia which is a challenging environment for any touring side.

Gambhir’s coaching methods and strategies will be put to the Test as the team seeks to bounce back from their recent failures and regain the confidence of fans and critics alike.

As the countdown to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy begins, all eyes will be on Gambhir to see if he can turn the tide and lead India to success on Australian soil and retain the prestigious cup.
