Pakistani runners participating in the 2024 New York City Marathon had an impressive showing with twelve athletes completing the course in under four hours.
Regarded as one of the most prestigious running events, the 2024 New York City Marathon featured athletes from all walks of life from all over the world.
Danish Elahi recorded the best time from a Pakistani participant, leading the pack with a time of 3 hours, 26 minutes, and 50 seconds. Rufi Shehzada, followed him with a time of 3:32:22 while Babar Ghias clocked in a 3:38:53.
Ammar Mumtaz, Prem Kumar, and Rehman Azhar also completed the race within the four-hour mark.
Khoula Ahmed, a Norwegian-Pakistani, emerged as the fastest Pakistani woman with a time of 3:43:02, trailed by Maheen Sheikh and Kaukab Sarwar, rounding out the top three Pakistani female finishers.
This year’s marathon drew a 36-strong contingent from Pakistan, including both local runners and members of the diaspora from the U.S., Norway, the UAE, the UK, and Saudi Arabia.
Netherlands’ Abdi Nageeye took first place with a time of 2:07:39, followed closely by Kenya’s Evans Chebet and Albert Korir. In the women’s elite field, Kenya’s Sheila Chepkirui led with a time of 2:24:35, followed by compatriots Hellen Obiri and Vivian Cheruiyot.
