Google just dropped some big news: Android 16 is coming sooner than expected, with an early release window between April and June next year, even though we only got Android 15 last month.
Now here’s the real kicker, rumors are now pointing to June 3 as the exact launch date. On that day, Android 16 will go live on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), and Google Pixel devices will start receiving over-the-air (OTA) updates right away.
This is a major upgrade from this year’s rollout, where Pixel users had to wait over a month after AOSP’s release to get their hands on the OTA update.
The reason for this faster timeline? Google wants Android 16 on as many new devices as possible from the get-go. Next year’s Pixel 10 series will undoubtedly be among the first devices to feature pre-installed Android 16. And that’s not all, Samsung’s next foldable phones, slated for a July release, are also likely to launch with the new OS onboard.
This earlier release means more users will get immediate access to the latest Android experience, packed with features and improvements. With Android 16 rolling out smoothly, it’s clear Google is upping its game to bring fresh, cutting-edge updates to users faster than ever.
As for Android 16 features, it is too early to talk about those. However, as the launch date draws closer, we can expect leaks to show up before the official announcement.
