Dubai to Increase Sewage Fees for the First Time in 10 Years

Dubai Municipality has approved a revised fee structure for the sewage system, set to be introduced in stages over the next three years, the authority announced on Tuesday.

This marks the first fee adjustment in a decade, with the increase applying to existing accounts, including sewage collection services in areas managed by the Municipality.

The fee hike aims to encourage water conservation and support sustainable practices, preserving water resources and developing an urban infrastructure prepared to meet the demands of Dubai’s growing population. The updated fees align with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, which addresses the needs of the emirate’s expanding population.

New Sewage Tariffs for Residents and Businesses The sewerage tariffs will increase gradually over the next three years as follows:

  • 1.5 fils per gallon starting in 2025
  • 2 fils per gallon starting in 2026
  • 2.8 fils per gallon starting in 2027

According to officials, these rates remain well below the global average, including in cities with similar GDP per capita.

Dubai’s rapid economic growth and population expansion have driven the need for continuous infrastructure upgrades across all sectors. As Dubai strengthens its position as a leading global hub and a top destination for living, working, and tourism, its population is expected to reach approximately 7.8 million by 2040.
