In a recent statement to Australian media, former fast bowler Jason Gillespie clarified his stance regarding a full-time coaching role with Pakistan’s white-ball team. Jason, currently serving as the interim white-ball coach for Pakistan, emphasized that his involvement is a short-term arrangement and not part of his long-term career plans.
Gillespie, who coaches Pakistan’s red-ball squad, noted that he had not applied for a permanent white-ball coaching position. “I love coaching, but spending 11 months away from home isn’t feasible. I don’t think I could mentally handle it,” he said, expressing his need to balance professional commitments with family life.
Gillespie’s temporary assignment came after Gary Kirsten’s unexpected resignation just days before Pakistan’s departure for their Australian tour, leaving the white-ball coaching position vacant. Kirsten’s departure, coupled with Gillespie’s interim appointment, underscores the ongoing adjustments within Pakistan’s coaching setup.
PCB was reportedly considering handing Gillespie an extended run as the coach of Pakistan’s white-ball squad as well to introduce some continuity ahead of the Champions Trophy. With those hopes now gone, PCB will look at other options for the vacant post.
Pakistan is currently battling Australia in the second ODI under the Aussie’s leadership and still has 4 games remaining on the tour before the team sets off for Zimbabwe.
