Pakistan secured an astonishing 9-wicket win against Australia in the 2nd ODI of the three-match series at the Adelaide Oval. The win helped Pakistan level the series 1-1, with the series decider set to be played in Perth on Sunday.
The Men in Green were sensational on the field with fiery pacer, Haris Rauf bagging a 5-wicket haul, while solid half-centuries by openers, Abdullah Shafique and Saim Ayub helped them chase down the target comfortably.
Pakistan’s convincing victory did not only help them in leveling the series but it also helped them leapfrog South Africa in the ICC ODI team rankings. The Green Shirts have now moved up one spot to number three, which is surprising after their poor run of performances in the format.
Pakistan had an awful run in the Asia Cup last year as they were knocked out at the Super 4 stage before being knocked out in the group stage of the 2023 ODI World Cup in India. Since then, Pakistan has only played 2 ODI matches, both of them coming in this ongoing series downunder.
Despite a poor string of performances over the past year, Pakistan came roaring back in Adelaide and steamrolled past a strong Australian side.
Pakistan will be hoping to win the third-match of the series and seal the series to record an impressive achievement and solidify their third spot in the rankings. Pakistan will go on to face Zimbabwe and South Africa in a three-match ODI series before a tri-series against South Africa and New Zealand early next year in order to prepare to defend their coveted Champions Trophy title.
