Pakistan’s star wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan has etched his name in cricket history, equalling the record for the most dismissals in a single One Day International (ODI) match during Friday’s second ODI against Australia.
Rizwan’s glove work was exceptional, as he held onto six catches behind the stumps, joining an elite club of wicketkeepers that includes Adam Gilchrist, Mark Boucher, Alec Stewart, Matt Prior, Jos Buttler, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Quinton de Kock, and Matthew Cross who have achieved the same feat.
Rizwan nearly had the opportunity to surpass this record altogether but dropped Adam Zampa’s catch after a routine skier, which would have secured his place as the sole record-holder.
Despite that, his outstanding performance was a standout moment for Pakistan in the match. Josh Inglis, Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Aaron Hardie, Pat Cummins, and Mitchell Starc all knicked catches to Rizwan.
Mohammad Rizwan was not the only record-breaker at Adelaide for dismissals as Haris Rauf also registered the best figures for Pakistan on the same ground.
Rizwan’s captaincy has had an auspicious start for both him and his side. Despite going down in the first ODI, Pakistan fought till the very last ball before their bowling line-up ripped apart Australia in the second ODI to set up an easy target for their batters.
