She announced that the gala will be rescheduled once air conditions improve, ensuring a safer environment for participants and spectators alike.

In response to the environmental hazard, the government has launched a proactive campaign, including distributing masks to Lahore residents and issuing advisories that encourage limited outdoor activity.

Additionally, authorities are clamping down on arson activities that worsen the smog, having registered 15 FIRs and levied fines exceeding 400,000 rupees against individuals found responsible for setting fires.

Officials also reported that claims of fires at 28 locations were investigated and found to be baseless, underscoring their efforts to combat misinformation and address legitimate environmental threats.

The Punjab government’s response reflects a holistic approach to addressing the smog crisis while ensuring that, once conditions are safer, the sports gala can proceed as a celebrated event for the province.

The postponement of the games is another blow to athletes who are awaiting opportunities to showcase their skills.
