Canada is reaffirming its commitment to providing equal and fair access to the study permit application process for international students, including those from Pakistan.
In 2018, the Student Direct Stream (SDS) was launched to expedite the application process for eligible post-secondary students, offering faster processing times.
Pakistan was one of the countries included in the SDS program, alongside nations such as India, China, and Nigeria. The initiative aimed to streamline visa approvals for students from these regions, making it easier for them to pursue higher education in Canada.
However, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen program integrity and ensure fair treatment for all students, Canada has announced the termination of the SDS and the Nigeria Student Express (NSE) programs, effective immediately. This change applies to all participating countries, including Pakistan.
Prospective students from Pakistan and other nations are now invited to apply through the regular study permit stream. This stream continues to accept Guaranteed Investment Certificates (GICs) as proof of financial support, ensuring that students meet the necessary financial requirements for studying in Canada.
Despite the closure of the SDS and NSE initiatives, Canada remains dedicated to welcoming international students from around the world, offering them the opportunity for a positive academic experience in a diverse and inclusive environment.
