Faham ul Haq’s selection for the upcoming U19 Asia Cup has caused a stir in the cricketing world with the former cricketer calling out Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for favoritism.
Faham is the son of former Pakistani captain and coach Misbah ul Haq which has provided critics the fodder needed to call out his selection.
Faisal Iqbal, the former Pakistan international, is the most vocal critic of the move thus far. Taking to his social media page, Faisal called out the youth’s lack of experience in Pakistan’s junior circuit which should have ruled him out for selection with better and more experienced options present. He said,
Misbah ul Haq(s) son selected without any national U19 tournament been played. Got his son selected, Wow!
Faham ul Haq has played just two List-A matches during the 2024/24 President’s Cup for Higher Education Commission scoring 13 and 18 runs in two games while opening the batting for his team which favours Faisal’s point of view.
However, he does possess ample lower league experience having represented Lahore Region Whites during the National Men’s U19 Championship 2023/24 and also taking part in President’s Trophy Grade=II competition in 2023/24.
It is no hidden secret that the path to international cricket has been easier for relatives of international cricketers. The irony is that Faisal Iqbal himself is the nephew of the great Javed Miandad which helped him break into the team.
Umar Akmal benefitted from his brother Kamran being a regular in the national team while Mudassar Nazar had his path paved by Nazar Mohammad among countless others.
Whether Faham succeeds like his father or wilts away like many before him remains to be seen.
