Manchester United has announced that interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy will depart the club as Ruben Amorim prepares to take over as the club’s new head coach.
The Dutch legend stepped into the Old Trafford dugout following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag, guiding United to a revival with three wins and a draw across his four matches.
Amorim was officially named as Ten Hag’s successor earlier this month and is expected to begin his tenure after the November international break.
However, the 39-year-old former Sporting CP manager has confirmed that Van Nistelrooy will not be part of the new coaching staff under him, as United confirmed in a statement announcing his departure. The statement read:
Manchester United can confirm that Ruud van Nistelrooy has left the club. Ruud rejoined in the summer and has taken charge of the team for the past four matches as interim head coach. Ruud is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend. We are grateful for his contribution and the way in which he has approached his role throughout his time with the club. He will always be very welcome at Old Trafford.
In addition to Van Nistelrooy, members of his interim support team—Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar, and Pieter Morel—will also exit, with United thanking them and extending best wishes for their future endeavors. The club added that it would confirm Amorim’s full backroom team in due course.
Amorim, who arrived at United’s Carrington training complex on Monday following a visa delay, will use the international break to prepare for his first match in charge.
The new boss has already hinted at tactical changes, suggesting he may implement a three-man defense when United takes on Ipswich Town in a few weeks.
As the Red Devils enter a new era, fans and players alike will look to see how Amorim’s leadership shapes United’s season.
