Pakistan Football Federation Under Spotlight as AFC Announces Women’s Asian Cup Venues

The venues for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026 have been confirmed putting the Pakistan Football Federation under the spotlight for making adequate arrangements to ensure their team’s participation in the qualifiers.

Asia’s top 12 women’s teams will compete in the championship, with dates and venues now confirmed following the AFC Women’s Football Committee meeting in Kuala Lumpur. Kicking off on March 1, 2026, and running until March 21, the tournament will span three iconic Australian cities: Sydney, Perth, and the Gold Coast.

The qualifying rounds for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia will be taking place from June 23 to July 5, 2025. With a cushion of 7 months, PFF does not have any excuses left to prepare for the competition despite the governing body of football in Pakistan being lackadaisical in the past few months.

Qualifiers for the 2029 edition and the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2031 are also scheduled over multiple international windows which will test PFF’s mission statement of promoting women’s football in the country.

AFC has specifically designed its calendar to maximize international match windows, ensuring optimal player welfare and competitive opportunities for teams across the AFC’s member associations leaving PFF with few excuses.

Despite amendments to PFF’s corporate structure, the women’s football team has not seen the improvement that was promised.

The national team has to deal with long spells of match drought which show up in the team’s performances for what little tournaments they get to be a part of. With more regular playing time, better results can be guaranteed.
