Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has launched an internship program designed to empower young graduates in Fisheries, Aquaculture, and Zoology by offering practical training in shrimp farming.
This six-month internship, based at the Fisheries Department’s shrimp farm in Muzaffargarh, will provide participants with hands-on experience and a monthly stipend of 50,000 rupees. The program aims not only to equip graduates with valuable skills but also to meet the growing global demand for shrimp and boost Pakistan’s foreign exchange earnings.
Maryam Nawaz emphasized the economic potential of shrimp farming, noting that utilizing 100,000 acres for shrimp cultivation could generate over a billion dollars in revenue. She also shared a vision of converting South Punjab’s barren land into productive areas for shrimp farming.
To further promote shrimp farming, the program offers farmers and investors support through leased land, incentives, and necessary equipment, with an anticipated outcome of creating 10,000 to 20,000 jobs. This project is centered on fostering self-employment and financial independence for youth, who can apply through an online job portal.
