In a recent air quality report, Multan has emerged as Pakistan’s most polluted city, registering an alarming Air Quality Index (AQI) of 810. Lahore follows closely with an AQI of 732, marking Punjab’s urban centers as some of the most polluted in the country.
This high AQI level signifies “hazardous” air quality, posing serious health risks to residents. Other cities also grappling with poor air quality include Rawalpindi (278 AQI), Islamabad (256 AQI), and Peshawar (242 AQI). Karachi, Pakistan’s largest metropolis, recorded an AQI of 204, reflecting unhealthy pollution levels.
The data further shows that cities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Haripur (187 AQI) and Abbottabad (176 AQI), are facing significant air quality challenges.
| Rank | City | Province | US AQI |
| 1 | Multan | Punjab | 810 |
