Internet Services Partially Restored in Islamabad, Rawalpindi

Mobile internet services began restoring in Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Wednesday morning after a three-day suspension. The disruption, caused by the authorities’ lockdown to curtail peaceful protests, had left residents relying solely on Wi-Fi and traditional mobile calls.

The protest ended late Tuesday night following a brutal operation by law enforcement agencies at Jinnah Avenue. With the situation returning to normal, life in the twin cities has started to stabilize. According to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) sources, the internet suspension was implemented on Interior Ministry directives for security reasons.

Along with mobile internet, social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, had also been restricted using a firewall. Users reported difficulties uploading and downloading media files during the outage. While mobile internet services are operational again, according to sources in PTA, the restoration of social media platforms will follow an assessment of the security situation.

Despite the disruption to mobile internet and social media, Wi-Fi services and regular mobile network services remained unaffected. However, the prolonged suspension significantly impacted communication and digital activities for residents and businesses in the affected areas.
