The International Cricket Council (ICC) has reportedly delayed the meeting to decide the 2025 Champions Trophy’s fate until tomorrow. The governing body of world cricket was set to hold a virtual meeting today to solve the logjam between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the BCCI.
ICC was reportedly set to discuss the matter with the representatives of every cricket board to find an amicable solution during the Champions Trophy meeting.
According to reports, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has held key discussions at the International Cricket Council (ICC) headquarters in Dubai, ahead of the critical ICC board meeting. Sources revealed that Naqvi arrived in Dubai and conducted one-on-one meetings with ICC officials, including a session with ICC CEO Geoff Allardice and other senior members.
These discussions were aimed at strongly advocating Pakistan’s position on hosting the Men’s Champions Trophy in 2025.
Naqvi continued to remain resolute in presenting Pakistan’s legal and cricketing stance to the ICC, reaffirming the country’s commitment to hosting the tournament.
The Champions Trophy 2025 has become a point of contention after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) refused to send its team to Pakistan due to security concerns.
Despite this, the PCB has remained firm in its opposition to the proposed hybrid model, which would see some matches played in a neutral venue. In response, the ICC had called for a board meeting to discuss the future of the tournament, originally scheduled for the February-March window in 2025.
The ICC’s upcoming decision will have significant ramifications for the tournament’s future, with the governing body seeking to resolve the deadlock between the PCB and BCCI.
