On Friday, the Lahore district administration confiscated hundreds of banners promoting the University of Engineering and Technology (UET)’s Spring 2025 admissions campaign, triggering controversy and criticism from university officials.
The incident occurred outside a printing press in Royal Park, where UET staff were loading the banners onto a rickshaw. Municipal committee employees, led by District Zonal Officer Riaz Gujjar of Data Ganj Bakhsh Town, intercepted and seized the materials.

The confiscated banners were taken to the town’s storehouse, and the owner of the printing press, Usman, was detained. UET Registrar Muhammad Asif filed a formal complaint with the deputy commissioner, describing the seizure as an unlawful interference in the university’s outreach efforts.
“The banners were being transported from the printing press when they were confiscated without justification,” the complaint, obtained by Dawn, stated.
The university has demanded the immediate return of the confiscated banners and the release of the detained press owner. The district administration has yet to respond to the allegations.
