Pakistan has reportedly named Lt Gen (R) Muhammad Aamir, former corps commander Gujranwala, as the new ambassador to Qatar.
This move is part of a broader overhaul of diplomatic postings, with new ambassadors also appointed for Switzerland, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Indonesia, Morocco, Belarus, and Egypt.
The appointment underscores Pakistan’s focus on strengthening its ties with Qatar, a key partner in trade, energy, and expatriate employment.
Meanwhile, key posts in Brussels and Warsaw have remained vacant for months. The Brussels mission, which handles relations with the European Union and Belgium, has been unoccupied since Foreign Secretary Aamna Baloch vacated the position three months ago.
Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, Pakistan’s ambassador to the UAE, had been nominated for the Brussels post but was unexpectedly withdrawn at the last moment, leaving the critical role unfilled. These new appointments aim to fill strategic gaps and enhance Pakistan’s diplomatic representation in important global regions.
