Haval Launches 2nd Generation Diesel H9 SUV

On December 3, Great Wall Motor’s Haval brand revealed its second-generation Haval H9 diesel-powered SUV. The vehicle will officially go on sale on December 5. The H9 diesel brings a mix of rugged design, strong performance, and advanced technology.

Exterior

The exterior closely follows the bold style of the petrol model. The front features a large rectangular grille with four horizontal chrome bars, giving the SUV a strong and aggressive look. The round, retro-style headlights, and a thick black bumper complete the front, enhancing its tough, off-road-ready appearance.

At the rear, the H9 diesel offers two different designs. One features a spare tire mounted on the back, while the other comes with an external square storage unit. The two versions differ slightly in length—5070 mm for the spare tire version and 4950 mm for the storage version—but share the same width (1976 mm or 1960 mm), height (1930 mm), and wheelbase (2850 mm). The side profile is square-shaped with roof racks and conventional door handles, and the multi-spoke rims add to its rugged charm.

Interior

Inside, the Haval H9 diesel offers a comfortable and tech-driven experience. The SUV comes with a 10.25-inch full LCD instrument panel, which provides clear, detailed driving information. The large 14.6-inch central touchscreen is the centerpiece of the dashboard and supports intelligent voice interaction for easy control of various functions.

Below the touchscreen, physical buttons provide quick access to vehicle controls, while an off-road handle is conveniently placed in front of the co-pilot. The center console includes a wireless phone charging panel, a bulky gear lever, and more physical buttons for vehicle settings, making it functional and user-friendly.

Performance

Under the hood, the Haval H9 diesel variant is powered by a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine. This engine delivers a maximum power output of 137 kW (184 hp) and peak torque of 480 Nm. The engine is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission (9AT).

For off-road enthusiasts, the Haval H9 diesel features BorgWarner’s Torque On Demand (TOD) intelligent four-wheel-drive system. This system ensures superior traction and control, allowing the H9 to handle city roads and challenging terrains with ease. The H9 is designed for those who seek adventure, whether on or off the road.

Pricing

The second-generation Haval H9 diesel model is priced between 238,900 yuan and 252,900 yuan (approximately $32,800 to $34,700). This price range offers a premium SUV experience at a competitive price point. The petrol-powered version of the Haval H9 launched in September is priced between 199,900 yuan and 229,900 yuan ($28,400 to $32,700).

Haval H9 diesel offers strong value with its advanced features, powerful performance, and rugged design, making it a great option for SUV buyers looking for both luxury and utility.
