Two passengers were detained on Tuesday after joking about a “bomb” during a flight from Islamabad to Karachi. The private airline’s plane was halted, and all passengers were offloaded for security checks after the suspicious comment raised alarm.
The Airport Security Force (ASF) took the two passengers into custody. The individuals, who were reportedly friends, claimed their remark was intended as a joke.
The incident caused a delay of three-and-a-half hours for the Karachi-bound flight. Bomb jokes on planes are taken seriously by authorities, often leading to detentions, flight delays, and legal consequences.
It should be recalled that a British passenger previously faced serious consequences for a similar act. An 18-year-old had joked on Snapchat about “blowing up the plane” while traveling to Menorca.
His message caught the attention of UK security services, prompting Spain to deploy fighter jets to escort the aircraft. The passenger was detained for two days and faced a potential penalty of $24,500.
