Don Bradman’s Iconic Baggy Green Cap Fetches Record Price at Auction

The legendary Baggy Green cap worn by Sir Don Bradman during his final Test series has been sold at auction for an astonishing sum, cementing its status as a prized piece of cricket history.

According to reports from international media, the iconic cap fetched AUD 479,700 at a local auction in Sydney on December 3, equivalent to over 70 million Pakistani rupees.

Sir Don Bradman donned this Baggy Green during the 1947-48 Test series against India, which turned out to be his farewell home series. The legendary batter delivered an unforgettable performance, scoring his 100th First-Class century during the series. Over six innings, Bradman amassed 715 runs, which included three centuries and a spectacular double century.

Remarkably, this particular cap is the only surviving Baggy Green from that series. Bradman presented it as a personal gift to Pankaj Kumar Gupta, the Indian team’s manager at the time. Years later, the cap was acquired by a collector, who eventually donated it to the Bradman Museum. It was from there that the cap entered the auction block, capturing the imagination of cricket enthusiasts worldwide.

Widely hailed as the greatest batter in cricket history, Sir Don Bradman’s career statistics remain unmatched to this day. Over 52 Test matches, he scored 6,996 runs at an incredible average of 99.94, including 29 centuries and 13 half-centuries. His record of 12 double centuries in Test cricket remains untouched, a testament to his dominance in the game.

Bradman’s influence on cricket transcends generations, with his name synonymous with batting excellence. He passed away in 2001 at the age of 92, leaving behind an enduring legacy that continues to inspire cricketers and fans alike.
