Kuwait Suddenly Stops E-Visa for 53 Countries

Kuwait has temporarily halted its electronic visa (e-Visa) program for citizens of 53 nations, citing plans to upgrade and enhance the system. This change impacts travelers who previously relied on the online platform to secure entry into the country before their arrival.

These countries are:

Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bhutan, Brunei, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Laos, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States, and Vatican City.

A notice published on Kuwait’s official e-Visa portal, states that the suspension is part of efforts to “develop and enhance” the system. While no specific timeline has been given by the Ministry of Interior, which oversees the e-Visa service, the goal is to create a more advanced and user-friendly process for international visitors.

To ensure visitors are not inconvenienced during the transition, Kuwaiti authorities have clarified that citizens of the 53 affected countries can still obtain a tourist visa upon arrival in Kuwait.

Steps to Obtain a Visa on Arrival in Kuwait

Eligible travelers arriving at Kuwait International Airport can apply for a single-entry tourist visa valid for three months at immigration checkpoints. Applicants must present the following documents:

  1. A passport valid for at least six months from the date of entry.
  2. A return or onward ticket.
  3. Payment of 3 Kuwaiti dinars (KWD) as the visa fee.

Additionally, visitors must not be on Kuwait’s blacklist and are required to provide a valid residential address for their stay when completing the application process at the airport visa counter.
