FBR to Confiscate Everything Valued Over $1200 From International Travelers

Under the proposed amendments to e Baggage Rules, 2006, the federal Board of Revenue (FBR) will confiscate everything valued over $1200 from international travelers. 

FBR has published the draft of further amendment in the Baggage Rules, 2006, which it proposes to make in exercise of its powers conferred by section 219 of the Customs Act, 1969 (IV of 1969). 

According to draft of proposed amendments, “commercial quantity” means a quantity of goods imported prima facie for trading or pecuniary gain and not for personal use or gift, the value of which exceeds $1,200.

The goods brought in commercial quantity would not be released on payment of duty, taxes and redemption fine. 

FBR has asked for objections or suggestions for consideration of the Board to be sent within seven days of publication of the notification in the official Gazette.
