The National Assembly Standing Committee on Interior has discussed updates regarding penalties for delayed vehicle registration. The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad briefed the committee, highlighting that fines now apply to vehicles ranging from 1,000 cc to 3,000 cc, following a notification issued on August 2.
The government has collected Rs. 260 million through these fines. However, committee member Tariq Fazal Chaudhry proposed abolishing the penalties, citing concerns about their impact on vehicle owners. Despite this, the committee clarified that it lacks the authority to suspend the notification, as confirmed by a representative from the Ministry of Law.
The discussion also touched on motorway fines, where the DC reported that raising the penalty to Rs. 2,500 has led to a significant reduction in traffic violations, improving road safety.
To address challenges related to vehicle registration, the committee directed the DC Islamabad to collaborate with the Car Association for practical solutions. These measures aim to improve compliance and accountability while addressing public concerns.
