As Pakistan prepares to face South Africa in the opening T20I of their highly anticipated tour, skipper Mohammad Rizwan has expressed confidence in his team’s ability to deliver, undeterred by the Proteas’ formidable home record.
Speaking outside the iconic Kingsmead Cricket Stadium in Durban, Rizwan acknowledged the challenges posed by unfamiliar conditions but emphasized the team’s determination to focus on the present task rather than relying on past achievements.
The Pakistan cricket team kicks off its South Africa tour today with a three-match T20I series, which will be followed by an equal number of ODIs and culminate in two Test matches, the latter ending on January 7.
The series promises high-octane action as Pakistan seeks to replicate its 2021 success, where the team secured a 3-1 victory in the T20I series, including a stunning back-to-back win in Centurion. The visitors also clinched the ODI series during that tour, thanks to a brilliant performance by Fakhar Zaman.
Pakistan’s squad for the T20Is sees the return of some heavyweights, including:
Mohammad Rizwan (captain and wicketkeeper), Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi all of whom were rested during the Zimbabwe series. Their inclusion is expected to add experience to the line-up.
Speaking to the media, Rizwan highlighted the importance of acclimatizing quickly to conditions in South Africa will prove critical for Pakistan. “As professional players, we must adapt to the conditions and deliver our best performances,” he said.
Rizwan also praised the younger players, noting their valuable contributions during tours of Australia and Zimbabwe.
The young players have gelled well with the seniors and are learning from their experience, strengthening our overall team combination.
