Pakistan is expected to receive approval from British aviation authorities to resume flight operations by the first quarter of 2025.
Nadir Shafi Dar, Director General of the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA), confirmed to Business Recorder that British aviation officials would conduct a critical inspection visit to Pakistan in January 2025. An online meeting between the two parties is scheduled for the third week of December 2024 as a precursor to the visit.
“The Department for Transport and Civil Aviation Authority UK officials are set to arrive in the third week of January 2025,” Dar stated, expressing optimism about securing operational clearance shortly after the assessment.
Dar noted that the evaluation would align with criteria used in a recent European Union assessment, which produced favorable results. These positive outcomes have bolstered Pakistan’s chances of resuming flight operations to the UK in the coming months.
Before the suspension, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) operated 21 weekly flights to the UK, including 10 to London, 9 to Manchester, and 2 to Birmingham. PIA officials anticipate a significant revenue boost upon the restoration of services to Europe and the UK.
The resumption of flights is expected to greatly enhance connectivity for Pakistani travelers heading to the UK and Europe.
