The School Education Department has requested data from district education authorities regarding teachers interested in voluntary retirement, particularly those aged 50 and 55. According to sources from the department, information has also been collected on teachers who have completed 25 years of service. The department has urged schools to provide this data promptly, including details such as date of birth, posting, designation, and educational qualifications of teachers seeking retirement.
Sources further revealed that the department employs 12,000 matriculation-qualified and over 8,000 FA-qualified senior teachers.
Meanwhile, the Hiking and Mountaineering Club (HMC) of Government College University (GCU), Lahore, celebrated World Mountain Day with a commitment to conservation and adventure.
The event featured Colonel (R) Sajid Basir Sheikh, a distinguished alumnus and former HMC president (1961-62), as the chief guest. GCU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali also attended, highlighting the role of extracurricular activities in developing well-rounded individuals.
The ceremony included musical performances and a cake-cutting by Colonel Sheikh and the club’s advisor, Syed Yasir Usman.
In his address, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali emphasized GCU’s legacy of academic and extracurricular excellence, noting that activities like hiking and mountaineering enhance students’ physical and mental capacities.
The HMC, one of GCU’s oldest student clubs, has been instrumental in guiding students to embrace challenges, appreciate nature, and foster a spirit of adventure.
The event concluded with the national anthem and a pledge to protect the environment, inspiring participants to uphold the values of conservation and exploration.
