Pakistan Announces 300 Scholarships for Bangladeshi Students

The government of Pakistan has announced plans to offer 300 fully-funded scholarships to Bangladeshi students for studies in various disciplines at top universities in Pakistan.

A Thursday meeting at the Ministry of Education discussed the launch of this initiative, which is part of the Pakistan-Bangladesh Friendship Scholarship Programme. The scholarships will be provided through a consortium of leading Pakistani universities.

Pakistan is already offering similar scholarships to students from Afghanistan and Sri Lanka.

The meeting, chaired by Secretary of Education Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, was attended by Prof. Dr. Ziaul Qayyum, Executive Director of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), representatives from the Pakistani High Commission in Bangladesh, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and participating universities.

According to the Ministry of Education, the program aims to strengthen ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh. Scholarships will cover fields such as engineering, basic and natural sciences, medicine and allied health sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities, and more, including architecture, fine arts, business education, computer science, information technology, agriculture sciences, media and communication studies, and languages.

The Secretary of Education praised the initiative and recommended that partner universities organize educational expos, seminars, and roadshows in Bangladesh to maximize outreach, in collaboration with local universities. He also suggested launching an online portal dedicated to the scholarships.

Emphasizing the importance of educational diplomacy in fostering regional harmony and goodwill, the HEC Executive Director urged universities to quickly seek approvals from their statutory bodies for scholarship allocation, fee waivers, and sponsorship opportunities.
