Apple iPhone 17 Air Mass Production Starts Next Year

Apple plans to revamp its iPhone lineup next year by replacing the Plus model with the iPhone 17 Air. This new device reportedly features an ultra-thin design and a single rear camera, a step down from the dual-camera setup of the current Plus model. The change signals Apple’s intention to experiment with a more minimalist approach to its smartphone offerings.

Supply chain sources report that the iPhone 17 Air has entered the New Product Introduction (NPI) phase. During this stage, Apple collaborates with its suppliers to assess the feasibility of the design and determine the manufacturing methods needed for production. Teams evaluate whether the proposed assembly processes are practical and cost-effective. If necessary, Apple makes small design adjustments to ensure the device aligns with manufacturing capabilities and production costs.

Once the NPI phase is complete, Apple will move to a small-scale test production line to confirm that manufacturing processes meet the expected standards. This ensures production aligns with the plans before the company transitions to full-scale manufacturing.

The Air’s ultra-thin design and simplified camera system mark a departure from the features associated with the Plus model. While it is still early in the development process, progress indicates that Apple is committed to this shift. Time will tell if the iPhone 17 Air can succeed where the Plus model struggled, especially in terms of sales and customer reception. Fans will likely hear more details as Apple approaches the device’s production timeline.
