Samsung Unveils Its First Android XR Headset Codenamed Moohan

In the wake of Google’s announcement of the Android XR operating system for extended reality (XR) devices, Samsung has shared details about the platform’s development. According to Samsung, it has collaborated with Google and Qualcomm for many years to create Android XR, underscoring its commitment to advancing XR technology.

Samsung has also introduced its first Android XR-compatible headset, codenamed Moohan, which means “infinity” in Korean. Samsung describes Moohan as “your spatial canvas,” highlighting its suitability for exploring the world with Google Maps, watching YouTube videos, or planning trips with the Gemini assistant.

This headset, designed to work seamlessly with Android XR, features advanced technologies such as state-of-the-art displays, passthrough capabilities, and natural multi-modal input. Interestingly, Samsung did not reference Bixby, its previous virtual assistant, leaving room for speculation about its future role.

Samsung has also confirmed that the headset is designed with user comfort in mind, emphasizing its lightweight construction and ergonomic optimization to ensure it can be worn for extended periods without discomfort. However, details about its technical specifications, such as display resolution, processing power, and battery life, remain undisclosed.

While Moohan’s current announcement only offers a glimpse of what will be available, we anticipate more details next year. Rumors suggest that Samsung is gearing up for a broader reveal, which could showcase the headset’s full potential and highlight how Android XR might shape the future of extended reality devices.
