Eleven Indian nationals were found dead in a restaurant in Gudauri, a mountain resort in Georgia, the Indian Embassy has confirmed.

According to Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, initial examinations revealed no visible injuries or signs of violence. Local media, citing police sources, reported that the deaths were likely caused by carbon monoxide poisoning.

The victims, who were employees of the same Indian restaurant, were discovered in bedrooms on the second floor of the establishment.

In a statement, the Indian Embassy in Tbilisi expressed condolences:
“The Embassy of India in Tbilisi is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of 11 Indian nationals in Gudauri, Georgia. We extend our heartfelt condolences to their families and are working closely with local authorities to ensure the swift repatriation of their mortal remains. The Embassy remains in contact with the bereaved families and is committed to providing all necessary support.”

Preliminary investigations suggest that a power generator had been installed in an enclosed indoor area near the sleeping quarters and was activated following a power outage on Friday evening.

Authorities have requested a forensic examination to confirm the exact cause of death.
