Samsung Introduces its Own Version of iPhone’s Dynamic Island

Samsung’s One UI 7, based on Android 15, is currently in beta, and the company has shared new features, focusing on AI integration. At the heart of this update is the Now Bar, a feature described by Samsung as a “defining element” of the UI, offering a personalized and interactive experience on the lock screen.

Now Bar: Samsung’s Take on Dynamic Island

Inspired by Apple’s Dynamic Island, the Now Bar reimagines the concept with Samsung’s unique approach. Positioned at the bottom center of the lock screen, the Now Bar also integrates frequently used apps and actions, allowing users to control entertainment, monitor workouts, get directions, and even translate languages directly from the lock screen.

Samsung emphasizes that the Now Bar, in One UI 7 delivers a highly personalized experience. For instance, when packing for a trip, it can prompt users to create a folder of essential apps for quick access. It also provides timely reminders, such as when to leave for the airport—similar to Google’s existing features—while adding its unique touch, such as creating a curated travel playlist to enhance the journey.

Beyond travel, the Now Bar offers practical daily utilities like one-swipe access to weather forecasts and a feature to “relive the highlights” at the end of each day.

Privacy and Data Security Enhancements

In addition to the Now Bar, Samsung introduced its Personal Data Engine, which focuses on advanced privacy protection. This engine securely stores data on the device using encryption keys managed by Knox Vault, Samsung’s trusted security platform. It also includes post-quantum cryptography, an additional layer of protection against emerging security threats.
