During this fiscal year, approximately 2,500 restaurants across Punjab, including many in Lahore, have joined the Electronic Invoice Monitoring System (e-IMS), with 300 sales points already linked.
A Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) representative announced that many of these establishments voluntarily registered as part of the authority’s enforcement actions and registration campaign.
“The PRA has intensified efforts to broaden the tax base by bringing unregistered restaurants into the tax net and integrating eligible restaurants with the e-IMS,” the spokesperson said in a statement on Thursday.
The e-IMS integration with the Point of Sale (POS) system aims to streamline tax procedures for businesses, removing the need for separate systems with various tax agencies. It also combats tax evasion by reducing dependence on manual receipts, thus enhancing transaction records and supporting economic documentation.
The e-IMS-POS integration for restaurants is being rolled out in stages. The first phase is expected to conclude by the end of December, with further expansion into other sectors set for completion by February. The PRA is also working to merge e-IMS data with tax returns to simplify processes and eliminate redundancies.
